Starting at Russell, Manitoba, the junction of Highways #16 and #45, I headed south east on #45 towards Angusville. Provincial Highway #45 is a great driving road with numerous sweeping turns, a few sharp corners and reasonable number of hills . As in years past the farmers are still at it, there was stubble burning south of the Angusville - the loss of ntrogen as a result of this activity is in the hundreds of tons - every spring it is followed by tons of fertilizer and prayers for rain.

The Bird Tail River valley the home of the Waywayseecappo First Nations , it is truly amazing the extent of down cutting and valley formation these small streams produced.

Rossburn, Manitoba , typical of many small prairie towns, most are like the buildings in Hollywood westerns at least the wood frame buildings exceptions exist where brick and/or stone were used. Exceptions do apply in the residential areas of these towns as some early residents ordered homes (plans or packages) available through the Eaton's catalogue.

After reaching the junction of Highways #45 and #10 it is a short drive north, less than 10 miles to the entrance to Riding Mountain National Park. As a youth my friends and I spent many a happy May long weekend consuming the odd pint, enjoying barbacued steak, and checking out the girls at the roller rink or the dance hall - now these venues are long gone. We also had time for milkshakes at the Wigwam Cafe - another aspect of this eatery were the neat cars parked out front - for me it was the MG TD's or TF's and the Healey 100's (BN1 and BN2's) - now the Wigwam has a fence! The pictures below show only a fleeting glimspe of Riding Mountain National Park - some photos of the commerical-visitor-adminstrative area - the Deep bay with adjacent golf course - one of the many roads to cottages on the north shore - the drive north past Grayling Lake with a stop at the observation tower on the northeast corner of the escarpment before heading out of the north gate and on to Dauphin
